Hugh Zimmer

Hugh Zimmer entered the real estate business in 1953 and has been a leader in the industry locally, regionally and nationally for more than 55 years. Hugh has been a leading developer in the area for more than 45 years.  During that time, he has been responsible for the development of more than 2,400 acres of business parks and more than 28 million square feet of commercial buildings throughout Kansas City and major markets across the country.

Hugh has been extremely active in promoting the overall growth of both Kansas and Missouri and has played an important role in many of the area’s economic development organizations.  He has served on the boards of directors and executive committees of numerous community, civic and professional organizations. In 1998, the governing body of Lenexa, Kansas made him an honorary citizen of that City in recognition of his contributions to the area’s growth and development.  He is Past Chairman of the University of Missouri-Kansas City  (UMKC) Trustees and is Chairman of the UMKC Chancellor’s Institute for Urban Education National Advisory Board. He is also an advisory director of Commerce Bank of Kansas City, and a Trustee of Midwest Research Institute.

Hugh was recently elected to Eminent membership in the Royal Institution Of Chartered Surveyors, one of the oldest and most prestigious real property organizations in the world, headquartered in London, England. Eminent membership comprises less than 1% of the RICS membership and represents the highest ranks of the property profession.

UMKC’s Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration honored Hugh as the 2004 Regional Entrepreneur of the Year.

David ZimmerDavid J. Zimmer, SIOR, FRICS — President

David Zimmer has been involved in the commercial and industrial real estate development and brokerage business since 1979. David began his professional career with The Vantage Companies in Dallas, Texas. David returned to Kansas City in 1983 and affiliated with Zimmer Real Estate Services. His primary duties include industrial and commercial real estate brokerage of properties owned and managed by Zimmer, as well as third party clients.

David became an active member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors in 1990. He was President of the Western Missouri-Kansas Chapter of SIOR in 1998. He served as Regional Vice President of Region V of SIOR as well as on its National Board of Directors from 1999-2001. He is currently serving as Vice President – Elect. In 2006, David was honored as ONCOR International’s CEO of the Year, an award voted on by the CEOs, managers and staff of fellow ONCOR International affiliates.

Ellen DarlingEllen Darling, CPM — Executive Vice President

Ellen Darling joined Zimmer Real Estate Services in 1982 as Marketing Manager. Since that time, Ellen has been involved in every aspect of the company from sales, to property and asset management and corporate operations.

Since 1992, Ellen has had the primary responsibility for the operations of the Property & Facilities Management division at Zimmer. This includes overseeing all activities of the property management, maintenance and accounting staffs, client relations, budgeting and implementation, staffing and new business development and strategic planning. Ellen serves as Chief Operating Officer of Zimmer Real Estate Services and leads the Executive Management Team.

Mark LongMark C. Long, SIOR, CCIM, LEED AP — Senior Vice President-Principal

Mark Long started with Zimmer upon graduating with honors from Rockhurst College in 1995. Mark was named Senior Vice President and Director of Sales & Leasing for Zimmer Real Estate Services in April 2003. Mark is currently responsible for the Brokerage Department at Zimmer Real Estate Services as well as his continued brokerage practice. He has been involved in more than 500 transactions representing 15 million square feet of industrial, retail and office space.

Mark has been recognized at the annual Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors (KCRAR) awards program as a multi- million-dollar producer and was recognized in 2000 by the KCRAR as the Realtor Salesperson of the Year. He is the past President of the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors.

Mark obtained his SIOR (Society of Industrial Office Realtors) designation in May 2000. SIOR members are admitted by their peers based on outstanding sales volume as well as leadership and ethics in the real estate practice.

Mark obtained his CCIM designation in October 2004. A Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) is a recognized expert in the disciplines of commercial and investment real estate. A CCIM is a valuable resource to the commercial real estate owner, investor and user and is among an elite core of 7,500 professionals across North America who holds the CCIM designation.

 

Daniel MusserDaniel F. Musser, CRE — Senior Vice President-Principal

Dan is Director of Development Management Services for Zimmer. This diverse real estate consulting, development and project management practice provides service to corporate, public sector, not-for-profit, institutional and investor clients. With more than thirty years of experience in creating innovative and successful developments, including fifteen years as an architect and fifteen years as a development management executive, Dan brings a unique perspective to development management.

Dan had several primary responsibilities in the development management of the Sprint World Headquarters Campus for Zimmer. The five-year project encompassed 4 million square feet of office space and amenities in 22 buildings, supported by 15 parking structures and 150 acres of site development.

Current experience includes a range of consulting and project management assignments in financial analysis, incentives, budget and schedule management and public approval processes, including the new 600,000 square foot, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and Village West, a 400-acre tourism and entertainment district.

Michael VanBuskirkMichael VanBuskirk, SIOR, CCIM, CRE — Senior Vice President-Principal

Mike VanBuskirk has been with Zimmer Real Estate Services, L.C. since 1994 and has been a principal with the firm since 2006.  As Director of Investment Services, Mike is responsible for acquisition and disposition of investment properties for individual investors, regional investment groups and institutional clients.  In this capacity, Mike’s services include the identification, evaluation, marketing and negotiation of investment property types including office, industrial, retail, multi-family and development land. 

Mike assists clients in all aspects regarding their commercial real estate such as lease evaluation and negotiations, tax appeals, expert testimony, 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges and sale/lease back transactions.  In addition, Mike has an active consulting practice and represents several prominent corporate service and landlord clients.

Since joining the firm, Mike has handled the acquisition or disposition of over $233,000,000 of investment properties representing over 4,300,000 square feet.  He has also completed leases and sales of over 2,800,000 square feet in transactions valued at over $125,000,000.  In addition, Mike has completed the sale of over 530 acres of development ground which represents a transaction volume of over $25,000,000.  A partial list of clients served includes: BKD, Hallmark Cards/Crown Center Redevelopment, Wachovia Bank of North Carolina, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Aquila, Scarbrough International, Cereal Ingredients, the Menninger Foundation and John Knox Village.

In 2003, Mike received the Realtor Salesperson of the Year award from the KCRAR and was invited to become a member of the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE). Mike earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and was recognized by KCRAR for a transaction volume of more than $22 million in 2005. In 2006, Mike was selected as one of Ingram’s Magazine’s 40 Under Forty.
